April 2018 one of the surgeons who I work with on a daily basis was turning 50. All of the nurses and secretaries wanted to give him a gift and asked me to make a nice personalised painting for him. He is a huge fan of art, so we thought it was a good idea. So I brainstormed to paint something personal and funny. Then I found just the right thing. Every extraction of teeth, when switching position, he always said this funny proverb '(Let's go to) the other side of the beach!' So I painted him looking at the other side of a beach he used to go to with his family. On the beach you can see teeth, but also implants and drills we often use during surgery. He's also a fan of René Magritte, so I tried to put his surrealism into my painting.
